Obviously you think that is a fabulous title. Does all the things a title should, grabs your attention and tells you what this post is about.
We could title the post 'the one where Merry goes on about being amazing just because she cooked something sticky and didn't burn it.'
The other day we decided we had time to fit one last thing in that the girls wanted to do this summer, so we went to the fruit PYO which we live about 500yards from and never go to and picked berries. For a late August, it was blooming cold.
Not even the bees wanted to move. Didn't stop us having a lovely time, though Bene slept through it in his sling. I left the girls to it and went to see Tilly Rose to see if I could sort out some workshops.
They picked a few kilos of fruit
Rather a lot got eaten before I got to the jam making part and some of it ended up as the berry element of these home made ice creams (more later on that)…
Once I had finished, I did a little bit of this and a little bit of that and ended up with something like this…
And turned the blackberry and apple into this jam which was staggeringly quick and easy and has set beautifully and tastes gorgeous. I've got 3 large and 1 small pots of it. Yum. Also made strawberry jam and raspberry fridge jam from the River Cottage preserves book and both of those have worked too, much better than last year in fact. I hav to say, golden brown sugar gives strawberry jam the edge and the hint about ovening your jars from that site I linked to is excellent too.
Given what a total kitchen-ophobe I am, I think that's pretty impressive stuff I am proud.
In fact, the only downside was being too busy with my hot sugar to be the oe to show Bene this ah well.
